Product Description
Click here to find out more about the 2009 MLA Updates and the 2010 APA Updates. Rules for Writers succeeds because it has always been grounded in classroom experience. By looking at her own students’ needs, Diana Hacker created an affordable and practical classroom tool that doubles as a quick reference. Developed with the help of instructors from two- and four-year schools, the sixth edition gives students quick access to the information they need to solve writing problems in any college course.
In the Hacker tradition, the new contributing authors — Nancy Sommers, Tom Jehn, Jane Rosenzweig, and Marcy Carbajal Van Horn — have crafted solutions for the writing problems of today’s college students. Together they give us a new edition that provides more help with academic writing and research and one that works better for a wider range of multilingual students. Flexible content options — in print and online — allow students to get more than they pay for.

| Customer Reviews: Everything Hacker Touches Turns To Gold! August 26, 2009 Tax Writer (Maui) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Diana Hacker is the master of the writer's reference guide, and this book is no exception. I also own Hacker's Pocket Manual of Style, which is one of the best quick-references I've ever used. In the book's description, Hacker states that she "tests" her books out on students, and it really shows!
Like her other reference materials, this book shows intuition and usefulness that many writer's handbooks do not have. Don't take my word for it. If you check out her other books, you will notice that the reviews are all very positive; this is always a good sign of quality authorship.
This book is a great reference for instructors, students, and writers (like me). The index is very well thought out, as well. The book covers APA, MLA, and a lot of other material that would be impossible to go over here. This reference has been around a long time, and just seems to get better with the updates.
Absolutely a great buy.

Active Writing Skills January 5, 2010 Adam S. Garibaldi (Tacoma, WA United States) Another good publication for re-familiarizing yourself with writing. In today's world, the way we communicate, whether it be in the form of verbal or visual - writing skills are essential to make yourself marketable.
this is why i hate english class February 10, 2010 Jimmy Diamond every semester they come out with new rules to ding you on. new ways to tell you the way you write is incorrect and you lose points because the way the last teacher forced you to write was wrong this semester. they pound this stuff into your head just to change it once again the next semester for some other confusing pointless reason while the teacher justifies it like this was the correct way all along. then they charge you some rediculous amount for the new book. you show up to class the teacher says you can use an older edition and she will give you a print out of the updated changes to save you some money, meanwhile all the different versions of the updates you now have still dont match up. seriously can anyone tell me what new discoveries we have made in lower division math classes in the last 100 years, then why do we need new editions every semester? now the english teachers are even worse. my older edition hacker with the white cover was easier to search through. this book is confusing to find things. dont worry about learning whats in this book, just learn what even the teacher you have wants you to learn, because the next one you have will say the opposite stuff anyway.
